Back in 2006, less than 60% of employers offered health coverage. The annual insurance renewal process was frustrating, and employees had very few choices when it came to health plans. We knew there was a better way.

We noticed that defined benefit pensions had transitioned to defined contribution 401(k)s, and believed the same model made sense for health insurance. At that time, we started to build one of the first multi-carrier health exchanges in the United States – a defined contribution plan where employers could offer a health benefits allowance and employees could select from a broad menu of plans. Array Health quickly became the leader in health insurance exchange solutions, selling our unique approach to employers with 5 to 1,000 employees across a wide range of industries, from software companies to medical facilities.

As our client base grew, we continued to refine our platform, adding capabilities such as billing and premium payment distribution, necessary for making the defined contribution model work seamlessly. Since the passage of health reform, we’re proud to offer our best-in-class technology and deep industry expertise directly to health insurers, including our newest partner Highmark, allowing them to quickly deploy their own private health insurance exchanges.
